Referral Criteria

  • Patient work-up complete, diagnosis confirmed, and appropriate pharmacotherapy initiated.

  • Patient values stress management, reflection, and evidence-based nonpharmacologic approaches.

  • Patient has no cognitive impairement and does not suffer from severe/decompensated psychiatric illness or addiction.

  • Patient is not currently experiencing violence or abuse, including intimate partner violence.

  • Patient speaks English or has access to a professional translation service.

  • Patient has a valid phone number and can answer the phone, or has access to a mobile phone/computer and can tap on a video link.

Please fax

  • Demographic data, along with a valid phone number.

  • 1-2 sentences explaining the reason for the referral (ex: stress in the setting of IBD).

  • Most recent full consultation note (if any) from relevant specialists.

  • Past medical history, social history, medications and allergies (if any).

What you can expect from Dr Khalsa

  • Our MSP funded clinic aims to support patients in 'moving the needle' on coping, function, and quality of life.

  • Patients are directly contacted to arrange an appointment within 2 weeks of receiving a referral. 

  • All appointments are virtual at present.

  • Appointments are 1:1 and may include the option for virtual group medical visits.

  • Dr Khalsa’s practice is anchored in EBM, and involves a generous amount of time spent on health literacy, psychotherapy anchored in the Mayo Clinic SMART program, and motivational interviewing anchored in lifestyle/behavioural change.

  • Dr Khalsa does NOT practice alternative medicine, functional medicine, naturopathic medicine, or recommend patients spend money on supplements (unless supplements are consistent with clinical practice guidelines). Any recommended reading is generally available through the BC public library system.
